Is a Portrait Session right for me?
There are many reasons to hire to a professional portrait photographer:

I've got you! I have invested so much time training to be a portrait photographer, even to workshops as far away as Italy. This training is not on how to use my camera. Every camera comes with a manual on how to use it? I have invested heavily in eduation to master posing of both womens and mens bodies and learned to sculpt light and shadows to flattering anyone's physique.
We believe in documenting who you are right now. Using master posing techniques I will showcase the best assets you have and minimize anything that makes you uncomfortable. If you do lose 20 lbs, these photos will document where you came from and how you succeeded. You will have so much fun you will want to celebrate that changes you make with a new photoshoot.
The truth is that almost no one is photogenic. Photogenic people are generally people you can't take a bad portrait of (Jennifer Lopez anyone?). For the rest of us we receive a combination of bad and good photos through our life. The bad ones are usually snapshots - random photos with bad posture while we are chewing with our face half in sunlight and half in shadows... A professional portrait is not a snapshot - it is a deliberately arranged image with flattering poses, professional hair and makeup, and controlled lighting. Every CLIENT I have met has said they are not photogenic - and have also purchased a portrait of themselves that they love! You deserve a portrait of yourself that you LOVE.
About the Studio & Photographer
I have been a photographer for 15 years. I decided to follow my passion full-time in 2020. I am continually working on my craft and have completed almost 300 hours of portrait education, including over 250 hours through The Portrait System, The Portrait Masters and attending exclusive Portrait workshops and conferences in Italy and Arizona.
My portrait photography business is a full-time endeavor. I hold a valid business license in the City of Nanaimo and am also active in the community as a member of the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce and the Nanaimo Business Network Association. I work in a studio space and report my photography business earning on my income taxes.
My home office is located in Nanaimo at 5353 Georgiaview Crescent, however I rent studio space in Lantzville and that is where the majority of my photoshoots take place. The address is 5-7221 Lantzville Road.
While I photograph all genders, the majority of my sessions are focused on empowering women and showcasing their unique beauty. I offer Empowered Portrait Sessions for the everyday woman, Maternity, Family, Dance, Personal Branding & Headshots, and Boudoir-Fine Art Nude Portraits.
I am not a wedding photographer, a lifestyle beach photographer, nor a newborn photographer, however, I would be thrilled to send you recommendations for amazing photographers in these genres!
A portrait session start at $500. Images start at $700, wall art starts at $1,000, image collections start at $2500, and albums start at $3500. Some people spend $700, some people spend $10,000+. On average most clients spend around $3,000. I don't hard sell; you only buy what you absolutely LOVE.
YES! A non-refundable booking fee is due at the time of booking your photoshoot. We only book one client (and their family/friends) on a calendar date. Your booking fee reserves the studio exclusively for you and also secures members of my team for your photoshoot. When you show up for your session, the entire booking fee is applied to any images you purchase.
Our studio hours are Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM.
We don't usually book appointments on the weekend, however we have been known to make special accommodations where our schedule allows for it.
To book a photoshoot, we start with a complimentary phone consultation to ensure that we are able to provide you with the service you are looking for. Upon agreement you would pay the session booking fee and complete our client agreement.
In order to provide the best service to our clients we usually need at least 2 weeks to properly prepare you for a successful photoshoot. We also need time to ensure our hair and makeup team is available for your date. With that in mind, it is always worth a phone call to us. If it is important to you and we can make it happen, we will do our best.
We understand that emergencies happen. If you experience an emergency we can reschedule within the next 30 days. After that, we will need to charge a $200 rescheduling fee in order to rebook the independent professionals we work with for your photoshoot.
Absolutely yes, you should reschedule. There are two reasons for this. First I don't want my team to get sick. They are entrepreneurs themselves, they work hard, and being sick costs them their income. But more important, If you are sick and don't feel well, it will show in your portraits. Please reschedule, within the next 30 days. After that we will need to charge a $200 rescheduling fee in order to rebook the independent professionals we work with for your photoshoot.

All booking fees are non-refundable. The date booked can be rescheduled up to 30 days prior to the scheduled session date, after which the booking fee is forfeit if the client does not show-up as scheduled. If cancellation is initiated by the photographer, all monies INCLUDING the booking fee will be returned within 30 days from the time of cancellation.
Once print orders are received by the photographer from the client, or digital images are selected for purchase by the client, no refunds will be given. In the event a client has prepaid for a collection, the amount paid for the collection, less, the non-refundable booking fee portion, is refundable if the client is unsatisfied with the images and chooses not to purchase any. Once images have been ordered and subsequently sent out for retouching, no refunds will be given.

Booking a Portrait Session
Book your photoshoot at least a few months before you may need your finished product. If you don't have a deadline, then know that I usually book clients at least a few weeks to a month in advance of their photoshoot date, so you are better to reach out as soon as you know you want a photoshoot.
Once you have decided on a date and time, I email you a client agreement and you pay your session booking fee to reserve your photoshoot date and time.
Most photoshoots are held in our studio at #5-7221 Lantzville Road. However, we do occassional do portrait sessions on location, in your home, or at your business.

Absolutely! We especially encourage you to bring someone who you woudl treasure having a portait of, or taken with, such as your mom or daughter or spouse. Before you invite someone though, we do encourage you to consider how the person affects your mood. If they get tired, irritated, or grouchy, we suggest having them join you at the end of your session so you both get to enjoy the right amount of time together!
Getting ready for your Photoshoot
Please do NOT tan prior to your photo session. Tanning solution does NOT translate well on camera AT ALL. And if you are looking at a natural tan, you are at risk of getting a sunburn and no amount of photoshop can fix that.
Our Professional hair + makeup artists are highly recommended for all our clients. You deserve the full experience, which includes being pampered and cared for by professionals who will make sure you’ll be putting your best face forward for the camera.
Absolutely! Pinterest Boards are great for this. Just keep in mind that these are for inspiration only and we won't be copying another photographers images. Different people, both bodies and personalities, shine differently in their portraits and what one person created for one person can never be truly replicated by someone else for someone else.
Choosing your outfits for your photoshoot is part of the whole experience. You don't have to make these decision by yourself, we are here to help! We will guide you through the type of portrait session you desire, and then give you lots of suggestions about flattering styles of clothing for portraits. We also have our amazing studio wardrobe to supplement your closet if you want something a little more glamourous!
We will send you all the information you need on how to prepare for your photoshoot, from when to make salon appointments to how to get the healthiest skin possible. We cover everything and our clients tell us every time that we cover things they never thought of! Also leading up to your portrait experience, you can email or call me anytime with questions too!

Be sure to bring any statement and/or sentimental pieces of jewelry as they will help make your portraits more meaningful for you. Also, If you have a particular shade of lipstick you absolutely LOVE, bring it along. Our makeup artists have a lot of shades, but there are millions more out there - so if you LOVE it - bring it!
During the Photoshoot
Plan to spend 3-4 hours at the studio, including hair and makeup. If you happen to sneak in a few extra outfits, plan to stay a little longer!

It happens. Sometimes a client comes in thinking they want super-glam makeup and then when its done, they look in the mirror and realize it's doesn't refelct who they see themselves as, or sometimes its the opposite and they actually want more definition on their eyes or darker lips. Our hair and makeup artists are professionals who want nothing more than for you to be happy with the look they create for you. If you are unhappy with it, let us know, we will make any adjustments needed to make you look and feel your absolute best. Trust me, no ones feelings will be hurt!

Retouching & Editing
We definitely offer both colour and black and white portraits. Usually we will photograph a variety of lighting techniques, some suited better for black and white and some for colour. If you prefer Black & White let us know during your consultation and we can create more for you.
We can retouch many things that our clients may not want in their photos. Our goal is to create images of you that you love, so we don't do drastic edits, otherwise it won't be "YOU' anymore. If you have specific concerns, lets talk so that we can address them before I even press the shutter on the camera - it is amazing what wardrobe and posing can accomplish. Personally I love the marks on a body that show you had a life well lived.
Due to the nature of photographing in RAW files, we edit every portrait we show you. When you see your portraits for the first time they have already gone through a light retouching. After that, retoucing is custom for every client and I strive for a natural style that emphasizes your best features. Once you select your final favourite portraits, whether it’s for your album, wall art or folio print box, I’ll edit them to perfection.
I can provide portraits without editing anything about you, however the overall image will still have been edited to create the final finished professional portrait.
Basic retouching is included in the portrait pricing and it is unlikely that you will find something we missed. If you have something large you want changed (body warping, head swapping, tattoo removal) then we outsource the retouching to our retoucher and you would be invoiced for the additional work based on our cost.
Ordering Portraits / Products
It really depends on what a client wants. Some clients spend $700, some spend $10,000+. Some clients simply want a special one-of-a-kind image, others want their entire house covered in new portraits that celebrate a families love. We are here to create incredible images of you. How you display them and how much you spend is entirely up to you.
I do not offer digital RAW files for sale.
You will only see the best images we created together, and what you purchase is completely up to you. You will only receive images you purchase.
Your portraits will be ready to view and order within 2 weeks following your photoshoot.
After your photoshoot you will be invited back to the studio to experience your portraits in person.
It depends. Usually you will see up to 100 images. However. sometimes there are too many amazing images and I can't narrow it down to less than 150 images for you to experience.
We cannot answer this for you. It is completely up to you. Our mantra is "Only buy what you LOVE"

Your final portrait display options are usually quite personal to your taste and since the products you choose will serve as a daily reminder of your experience only the finest print products will do. We offer luxurious handcrafted albums, elegant portfolio boxes, timeless matted prints, Gallery Quality Framed wall art, Amalfi Fine Art and Impactful Canvas and Acrylic Showstoppers.
Our products are hand-crafted in Italy to the highest standards so we usually advise it will take 6-8 weeks for your finished products to arrive. Of course, some products take less time.
You are able to order any products you love during your Portrait viewing and ordering appointment. Full payment for products ordered is due before print production can begin. I do not order products without receiving the full payment.
We know you will want to share and show off all your fabulous portraits, that is why we give social media sized digital files of every portrait you purchase.
Yes.
We accept all major credit cards, e-transfers, debit, and cash.
The digital files you receive of your images will be formatted in screen resolution which is not suitable for printing.
You are free to use your images anywhere you like.
We do not watermark your images.
All of our client agreements include a model release allowing us to use your images on our website, on our social media, and to promote our studio. We will always be sensitive to timing in case you are giving your images as a gift to someone.
